Saturday June 11th

We had a talk this week that I can’t stop thinking about.  There were so many insightful and wise things I took from it. 1 John 4:7-8 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.  Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.  Whoever does not have love does not know God, because God is love.   "No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us" (1 John 4:12, NIV). need God in order to comprehend what love is.  When I imagine the perfect love that God shows me every day I recognize that I will never be able to show that “perfect love” to anyone but he gives us something to aim for because of everything he shows us.  He loves us unconditionally despite him knowing even the deepest flaws we possess.  He knows our sin more than anyone yet he loves us much much more than anyone ever will.  The reason we love each other is because of God’s love for us in Christ.  Generally we love people that are loveable.  After hearing this I thought about it and its true because how easy it is to love someone who is smart, kind, funny, and attractive in multiple ways, but what about the people who don’t contain all those qualities… I thought of how hard it is to love someone who we feel has nothing to offer us.  That is so twisted though because love in a relationship has the mindset what can I GIVE to this person and not what can I GET out of it.  A lot of times the “seemingly” unloveable are who need us the most.  During this talk I did a lot of evaluating about my heart and relationships.  My love for people shouldn’t be shallow.  Another good point brought up was that sometimes the most loving thing isn’t what “feels” most loving.  Love asks what is best for this person? And even it could be something you must to even if its hurtful in the moment because in the long run it is the loving thing.  I just constantly have to check my heart before I do something because if my intentions aren’t pure and not gospel centered then I have to reevaluate.
